1. Background of Kingscos Medical Publishers
Kingcos Medical Publishers was established after the merger between Kingswood Scientific Publishers and Cosmopolitan Health Publishing. Kingswood Scientific Publishers was originally established in New York, USA in 1953. Its main target was to publish scientific books at all levels. In the 1970s, Kingswood started to expand its activities, especially in the areas of Medical Publishing, which cover Books, Guides, Journals and Periodicals. Hence in 1978, Kingswood merged with Cosmopolitan Health Publishing to form a new organisation called ‘Kingscos Medical Publishers’ with offices in New York, Amsterdam, Hong Kong and London.
2. Need for More Expansion
During the 1980s and 1990s, our medical publishing increased to areas of Medical and Healthcare Education, Medical Law and Health Care Research. Since the beginning of the new Millennium, there has been a need to increase our Public Health and Primary Care Publications. We also noted the expansion of our market in North America, South America, Africa and Asia. This has lead to the formation of more alliance with our counterparts in different parts of the world, contributing to the formation of the ‘International Medical Publishing Group’ in 2004, with a consensus agreement for the name to become operational to all our clients from January 2006.
As part of the agreement for the new merger, it was decided to expand the Development Fund that Kingscos Medical Publishers usually offer some of their clients, who need expansion, and to make it more widely available to other organisations. Hence the ‘International Medical Publishing Group Fund’ was established and it would become operational from January 2005.
3. New Changes to Note
Please note that all Books, Guides, Reports, Journals and Periodicals published by Kingscos Medical Publishers would have the imprint of ‘International Medical Publishing Group’ from January 2006.
Clients, who were awarded the Kingscos Medical Publishers Development Fund, would continue to benefit from the grant under the new operational name. New Clients, who wish to apply for development funds can do so from January 2005, under the new name (International Medical Publishing Group Fund).
4. New Website
The construction of the new website for the International Medical Publishing Group has been commissioned to start from January 2005. It is estimated that the construction period would run from January 2005 to June 2006. This period would be necessary in order to incorporate all the operational aims, objectives, policies, interests and activities of the various group members.
There would also be scope to offer electronic versions of all the Journals, Periodicals and some books that we publish. In addition, there would be facilities for online ordering of books and Journals.
5. Indexing Facilities
We are currently working with Medline and Pubmed (Index Medicus), EMBASE and Social Science Citation Index. We have also been receiving offers and invitations to index our Journals in other Scientific Indexing Services. Some of our Journals are taking advantage of this offer.
We would keep you informed about the developments of the activities discussed in items 2 to 5 above in due course.
