News Report October 2003 Edition

We are pleased to announce the following developments:

1. Announcing the London Journal of Primary Care

We are happy to announce that we have been commissioned to publish the London Journal of Primary Care (LJPC) by the Joint International Academies of Research and Education (JIARE). The journal was approved by the Committees of JIARE during their meeting of August 1998. This was in response to the requests from JIARE membership on publicising the innovative work on research and education in primary care, which JIARE sponsors around London and the South East of England, United Kingdom.

The JIARE Committees agreed that the preparations for the publication of the journal’s first edition in 2008 would take place from 1999 to 2007, when some of the JIARE sponsored projects in London and South East England, UK would have been completed and new ones commissioned. It was agreed that two ISSN will be obtained for the Journal, which would be published twice a year both in print and online by 2007. The LJPC will aim to be the dynamic medium of communicating and promoting research, patient care and education in primary health care in London and the South East of England, UK, which will be beneficial to the wider international audience. It is anticipated that the first edition of LJPC would be published by 2008, and its website to be launched in 2008/2009.

As the Committee of JIARE had commissioned London Journal of Primary Care to cover the whole of London and the South East of England since 1998 to be published by us, we will be publishing it with the same high quality, innovative standard, style, with great deal of international and dynamic coverage and relevance as we did with the our other published journals. To this end we will work very hard to produce highest quality journal, which would be indexed in various online databases like EMBASE, MEDLINE, and others as appropriate.

We are also very proud to announce that Dr Comfort Osonnaya had been appointed as Editor in Chief of the London Journal of Primary Care since 2003. Dr Osonnaya will bring the supreme editorial highest quality and leadership she had been giving to the International Journals of Medicine and General Practice and Primary Care to the London Journal of Primary Care.

An update on the progress of LJPC will be announced in our News Report of October 2007.

2. Expansion of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Medicine (IJM)

As agreed during the Editorial Board meeting of the IJM in 2001, it had become necessary to recruit up to 20 more Editorial board members for the IJM due to its expansions and more international recognition since 1998 to date since Dr Comfort Osonnaya was appointed as the new Editor in Chief of the journal.

The journal has expanded from 48 pages in 1998 to 72 pages since 2003, with wider coverage and due to the high number of articles received from 204 per year in 1998 to 508 in 2003, publishing only 35% of all articles received.

The IJM now publishes supplement editions on various topics due to the increased number of papers received for publication each year. The IJM is particularly receiving more papers and reports on the areas of primary care, public health, ethics, gastroenterology and medical education. There would be supplement editions of on these topics between 2003 and 2004 and in the future.

3. KMP has commissioned more Reports and Books in the Areas of Healthcare Research and Medical Education.

As announced in 1997, we have published a great deal of new topics in the areas of medical education, healthcare research and ethics. Our authors’ databases have expanded from different disciplines in healthcare sector and form over 1000 countries worldwide. We aim to continue to promote our activities in developing countries and offer reduced rates for books and reports for people in these countries to be able to purchase them.

We have also established bursaries to encourage people from developing countries to undertake training on How to Write Scientific Papers and Books. We will be piloting these in Africa and Asia from 2004 and we will announce the results of the project in 2009 News Report, after five years.

We would keep you informed about the developments of the activities discussed in items 2 to 5 above in due course.
